Things Control Resonant Doesn't Tell You

Last updated 2026-09-24 · Verified against In-game menus and the gameplay guides linked below · 7 min read

Which rules are easiest to overlook?

Build Power, Zone Level, and the Power meter measure different things. Aberrant Strength and Ability Strength are separate rows. Living Shards, Source, Talent Points, and Power Upgrade Points pay for different upgrades. Read an artifact’s penalty, and treat slower status buildup as extra time rather than immunity.

These ten rules are easy to miss because the game shows them once, in a short tutorial or on a second menu tab. They change how you spend materials and how you read a build. For which stop comes first, use Control Resonant Tips: What to Do First.

Build Power is not Zone Level

Build Power is the setup you have equipped: Weapon Forms, Talents, and Core Upgrades. On the same Stats & Effects screen, Aberrant Strength is the weapon row and Ability Strength is the ability row. Each row has its own multiplier. The Power meter beside Health is what abilities spend. It is a different number from Build Power.

Zone Level is progress in one region. It changes that region's rewards and its vendor. A zone level-up does not raise the damage on a weapon form. If a vendor asks for Zone Level, changing forms does not meet it.

Your upgrades use different resources

Four spends show up on different lines.

Talent Points go on the Talent tree. They arrive when a zone levels up.

Living Shards unlock Aberrant forms and Combo Finishers. A vendor can list a Living Shard at 4,000 Source. Read the price on the screen in front of you. The Power Lines quest reward is another source: its final conversation awards one Living Shard.

Source, together with enemy materials, pays for ordinary upgrade nodes. A Reset Item on the same kind of vendor screen is priced in Source.

Power Upgrade Points are a collection count. The notice says to collect three to improve Power. A 2/3 pickup has not raised Power yet. Health Upgrade Points have their own three-point counter; the laundromat Health Upgrade Point is one example, and does not contribute to the Power counter.

Read the cost printed on the node you are about to buy. Which stop comes first is in Control Resonant Tips: What to Do First.

Melee attacks recover ability Power

Form cards label Power Recovery as Low, Medium, or High. Cleave shows Low. Crush shows Medium. Concussive Beatdown shows High. Use that rating when you compare forms.

The attack order is in the first-form checklist. A harder hit is not always the higher recovery rating. If you spend the meter and stay out of melee range, you skip the hits that fill it back up.

Wallet can spend Health when Power is empty. Assist Mode can change recovery. Until you change that setting, the rating on the form card is what you have. Remedy's Assist Mode guide says trophies and achievements stay available.

Execution bonuses depend on your Talents

Dominance is a Talent. It costs one Talent Point. After an Execution, for 8 seconds, Primary and Combo Finisher melee damage increase by 100%, and Secondary damage increases by 50%. Kills during Dominance also guarantee more Health Elements.

Added Authority sits on the Strike branch of the weapon tree. A melee kill grants Empowered, and Combat Ability Damage and Falter increase by 25%. The node costs Aberrant Slivers, Corrupted Elements, and Source.

An Execution with both unlocked hits harder than one with neither. Check which trigger you actually have before you blame the weapon.

Damage and Falter answer different questions

Damage and Falter are two stats on the same hit. Damage is the health the hit removes. Falter is the interrupt. Crush's charged attack is high on both, and it still has to land. Choosing the form is in the first-form checklist.

The damage-type panel on the same Stats screen sorts five types:

TypeWhat the menu says
RawNo extra property
BluntEffective against Armor, weaker against Mold
SharpEffective against Hiss Shield
FireEffective against Mold, and it builds Burn
MoldWeaker against Mold enemies, and it builds Infected

Armor, a Hiss Shield, and a Mold enemy are three different targets. No type on this panel is best against every enemy.

Unlocking an artifact does not mean you have equipped it

A recipe on the formation list can still be missing its materials. If Wallet still shows a cost and a missing-resources warning, it is not crafted. A Recycle preview lists materials coming back. That preview is a dismantle, so it is neither the crafting cost nor materials already in your inventory.

After you craft it, equip it. An unequipped artifact does not change the build.

Wallet's effect: when Power is not enough, Combat Abilities spend Health instead. This spending stops at 5% Health. Hits from enemies ignore that floor.

Some artifacts have real trade-offs

Ornate Buckle restores a lot of Power from Executions and increases damage taken by 30%. Golden Earrings increases Falter by 20% and reduces Damage by 30%.

Use Ornate Buckle when you can survive long enough to reach an Execution. Use Golden Earrings when the interrupt is worth the lost damage.

If you equip more than one, read each penalty on its own card.

Slower status buildup is not immunity

Face Mask slows how fast Infected builds up. Lighter slows Burn buildup. Worn Eraser slows the buildup of negative status effects more broadly. None of these removes a status that is already on you. Leave the hazard and watch the meter. It can still fill.

Feeding Bottle, on the same set of cards, raises Power recovery by 30% while Infected or Burn is active. Read that as a side effect. Standing in the hazard to keep the bonus is a poor trade.

Vendors and regional rewards are not interchangeable

Vendor Level 2 is not one city-wide number. The reward lists show it at zone level 3 in Downtown, level 4 in the West Incursion Zone, and level 6 in Central. Open the list for the zone you are standing in.

Stock changes by zone as well. Write down the zone next to an item you want to buy later. A vendor you saw early can gain new stock after that zone levels up. Finding the truck is in the local-vendor step.

A Zone Level reward and a rise in Build Power are two different events.

A Resonant victory changes more than your ability list

Beating a Resonant does more than add an ability. The zone menu says a World Feat Cap Increase applies on the next Resonant Cycle, which raises how many World Feats that cycle allows.

For the floating-object activity, follow the Pattern Break solution to identify and strike the out-of-sync object.

Your first ability choice comes after the prologue fight. The Artist boss guide compares Barrage, Volatile Anomaly and Shield.

The Reset Item is separate. Its card says it can be used in the Gap to reset Combat Abilities, Talents, or Aberrant Upgrades. Buy it from a vendor and check the price on that screen. A listed price is 5,000 Source. Read the confirmation screen before you buy it. Finish the nearby objective you still want before the fight.

Whether to clear the district before the fight is step 11 of Control Resonant Tips: What to Do First.
